Buffered Peptone Water is a general purpose diluent recommended in many standards for sample preparation, stock suspensions and decimal dilutions. This medium is also used for the pre-enrichment of Salmonella and Cronobacter sakazakii, in particular to revitalize microorganisms that have undergone sublethal treatments such as atomization, pasteurization, addition of preservatives, high osmotic pressures, high acidity. It is also used as a suspension and revivification medium for the enumeration of Listeria monocytogenes.
