The 3M Aerobic Count Plate is a sample-free plate designed to determine the total aerobic bacterial population. The built-in grid makes it easier, faster and more accurate to count colonies. All 3M Aerobic Count Plates contain a water-soluble gelling agent, indicator and nutrients. All the elements therefore required for microbial growth without the agar preparation.

Counting with the 3M Petrifilm Aerobic Count Plate takes just 48 hours. To facilitate counting, the counting plate contains a red indicator dye that colours all colonies red for better counting and contrast. The colonies are easily distinguished from food particles that may cause confusion with other methods. The plates can also be used for aerobic or anaerobic counting of lactic acid bacteria in food and environmental samples.

Method: official method of analysis:

  • Milk and dairy products: 48 hours +- 3 hours at 32°C +- 1°C
  • All other foodstuffs: 48 hours +- 3 hours at 35°C +- 1°C
  • Poultry, meat and seafood Coliforms and E. coli: 24 hours +- 2 hours at 35°C

Incubation: Stacks of 20 or less£.

Optimal pH range: 6.6-7.2

Counting area: 20 cm²

NF validation by AFNOR certification:

  • All foods: 72 hours +- 3 hours at 30 °C +- 1 °C
  • All foodstuffs except dairy products and raw shellfish: 48 hours +- 3 hours at 30°C +- 1°C
