Yeast extract agar is used in water bacteriology for the enumeration of revivifiable microorganisms by colony counting at 36 °C and 22 °C. The method is designed to measure the operating efficiency of drinking water treatment and more generally of all types of water. It is particularly suitable for the analysis of water intended for human consumption, including bottled water and natural mineral water, and for the analysis of swimming pool water.
